“
G'day from the Aussie air con boys, July 09, you'll remember.
Let me start by saying your gorgeous bar maids are an absolute credit to your establishment and your town itself. They really went along way in making our holiday special. I've been reading some of the other reviews on your site and noticed that not all are positive. In my opinion you don't really want that sort of clientele anyway. I reckon your pub lends itself to more of a happy-go-lucky, make your own fun sort of person. Someone who just wants to take some time out of their busy life to relax or maybe even, like us, thirsty travellers who just wants to get to know a few of the locals and what it's really like to live in the great city of San Francisco, and we certainly did that. I truly hope I get to revisit your beautiful city again one day and if I do, I'll be sure to come back to some of the great hospitality at Rickenbacker's.
Until then, lotsa love, The Aussies.

“ Eddie Rickenbacker's is not for children. It's not for thin-skinned persons, easily offended persons, or generally anyone who can't take a little bit of grit. It's owned by a guy (Eddie) who literally lives in a recliner that faces a TV, all of which can be viewed from the Second St. window. You can walk by early in the morning and see big old Eddie, snoozing and drooling in his overstuffed La-Z-boy. An enormous orange cat is another regular here, who roams the floors and sidewalks ready for patrons to pet his oily kitty fur. Co-workers and I go to Eddie's for beer and the not-on-the-menu "gross cheese." Just ask for it. The waitress will chuckle, doodle something in her note pad, and return to your table in 5 minutes, or 25 minutes, with an icy cold ramekin of Handi-Snacks cheese and two or three baskets of crackers. It's deplorable, but the whole experience is also wildly entertaining if you have a sick sense of humor or are inclined to sarcasm of the greatest degree. ”

“ The place had a racist, sexist display of a native american woman's teeth, purportedly knocked out by Custer. I guess it's a great place for a wife beater. I've been there before I heard of this, but never again. There are too many other fine places to dine and so many better bars in this town. ”

“ Unique, eclectic place...much like the owner. Great drinks made with top-shelf spirits and mixes the way they used to be, e.g., powdered sugar vs.. simple syrup, fresh squeezed lime juice vs bottled. Consummate saloon. Food's good too.
Yep, people smoke at the bar occasionally. Three cheers for resistance to bureaucratic tyranny! Remember, you're not in the cafeteria of the American Lung Association or at a southern Babtist Convention. You're in a damned saloon! Enjoy it.
If you think the investment in motorcycles hanging from the ceiling is substantial, ask about the Tiffany Lamps.
Great place to take visitors. Always a great place to stop and enjoy the unique clientele and a great drink or two. One of those places that contributes to the character of San Francisco, in a positive way. ”

“ I finally got to eat here! (I work in the area and have just not done it until last week - 4/15/05). We wanted a quick bite to eat for dinner and we were previously wine tasting at VinoVenue, about a block and a half away, so this was a good choice. I had the angel hair pasta with goat cheese and sundried tomatoes and stuff ($9) and it was really, really, really yummy! My boyfriend had the steak which was done french style in a peppercorn sauce ($15) and served with mashed potatoes and veggies. It was very tasty, too. Our waitress was very busy with a large party of tipsy folk and yet managed to give us very good, friendly service. And we loved the motorcycles hanging all over the place, of course. ”

“ Eddie Rickenbacker's is the home to one of the most offensive and racially insensitive displays one can find in the city. Along with displays of guns used in the wars of extermination against the Native American population, there are what is claimed to be the teeth of Monasetah. One would expect offense at the display of human remains of a woman kept as a sex slave by a former US general, but the display has been around for years with little complaint. When questioned about the subject the owner replied that concern for cultural sensitivity was "not living in reality." This type of attitude is completely ignorant and distasteful. I would not give a penny to such a place.

“ I don’t like cigarette
smoke. My last three visits to this restaurant I have witness smoking at the
bar. I
was here with friends and asked the bartender if he would ask his patrons to
quite smoking inside the restaurant,
I was told if I did not like it, To go to a different restaurant, so
we did, all eight of us got up and went to the pied piper bar at the palace
hotel. With that said, I have eaten here a few times, the food is enjoyable
bar food, and the décor is full of antique motorcycles and guns, worth a
visit if you enjoy antiques of this nature. Conclusion, Cigarette
smoking indoor is unacceptable, if your not bothered by Cigarette smoking,
check out the interior, I think it’s very unique and is always a point of
conversation. ”

“ This is an interesting spot. I have been here a few times. The food was very tasty and inexpensive. I've had the steak, the tuna melt with the sides....very good. The catch---its a smoking establishment? Not sure how that works. Its very casual, service is usually very friendly and quick. If you are ever in the area...give it a try---if smoke doesn't bother ya too much. (I'm not a smoker by the way but it doesnt really bother me)

“ Fun atmosphere, and one of there very few places in the city where I would say it's okay to take kids. Yes good for large groups! The menu is limited, but whatever you order will be good (not great). It's reliable is the gist of what I'm getting at. ”

“ Pretty basic fare here, nothing special, but I do love those old motorcycles - very cool. Also has outdoor seating when the weather is nice. Good for groups and happy hour. ”

“ Generally classic pub fare in a fun atmosphere. Long bar takes runs the length of the building while tables offer up space to enjoy your food with your drink. Motorcycles hang from the ceiling & walls making it a respite from the usual shishi spots near downtown. ”
