I was very excited to try this place. I love pierogi and have made them with Ukrainian families in Canada. My Mum used to make the best cabbage rolls...and its been a long time since I've had either. After all the great reviews i assumed we'd be in for a real treat. It was a fairly huge dissapointment. We tried the assorted pierogi...they all tasted the same, flavourless and boring. The beet salad was not much better...seemed like canned with some marinated onions thrown in. The mushroom soup was tasty and rich but SOOOO salty...apparently the only seasoning they had. The dill pickle soup was the best part of the meal i believe; slightly sour and lightly creamy. We then shared a cabbage roll...which I was hoping to be the saviour ...wrong again. More flavourless meat , rice and cabbage. The Polish beer I had was delicious! Our server was sweet; but I won't be back anytime soon. The good news is that I am inspired to make my own pierogis and cabbage rolls now! Review #19603

This is a wonderful old world romantic restaurant. I've had something different everytime I've come and the only thing that was OK was the potato dumpling. The service is personable and the food is great. Review #18702

The food is about as authentic as its going to get outside of PL and NYC. Polish food is traditionally fatty and filled with carbs. Those expecting a light meal, should try sushi instead. My only gripe are the prices. I will agree with many of the reviewers here, food like this in PL costs a lot less. Review #17498

If you make any new years resolutions about diet and exercise, and want to break it very strenuously, then Old Krakow is the place to do it! While I enjoyed my meal, I was WAY overloaded with starch/carbs, and fat. It's one of those places where you go to enjoy home-cooking and not worry about anything else. The restaurant is charming, the service is genuine and the food is pretty authentic (I think). The soups, while delicious, are hearty and liberal with the cream and salt. I had the potato dumpling with mushroom sauce which was five mounds of potatoes swimming in a sea of delicious creamy mushroom sauce (not low cal). At the end of the dish, I was completely stuffed - I don't think I have ever had so much starch and cream in one go. My partner had the mixed selection of perogis, which were starchy and tasty. They don't come in any sauce so he kept taking my mushroom cream sauce, which I must admit, made them taste better. All in all, I think Old Krakow is worth trying. Review #17478

I'm half Polish, mother's side. Came here for dinner with 4 of my 100% Polish cousins, one nephew & my Anglo Saxon fianc?Bambie Kat in tow. Bambie is a foodie, but she was quite confounded by the strangeness of the menu selections. Well, we talked up a storm about our immigrant Polish grandparents around a meal of Pirogues, bacon laced sauerkraut, Goulash, Potato dumplings, & the like. Dinner was a delightful 3.5 hour occasion, where we drank lots of wine and had a good old time. Us diluted Polacks agreed that this was like the food we remembered as kids from the family get togethers of the 1950's & 60's. All that was missing was the loud & terrible polka music & the requisite late night drunken testosterone brawl. Hearty, starchy, food. Great service. Nice neighborhood. Recommended! Review #14694

Old Krakow, the warmth and charm from the hearth of Old Europe, the type of restaurant that used to fill our cities but is now as defunct as the memory of ancient immigrant dreams. A living anachronism, the perfect tonic to excessive celebration or a chilly San Francisco night. A quintessential American experience, the type of food your Grandma must have made. Such enticing middle european specialties as marinated vinaigrette mushrooms, cucumber salad in a sweet cream dill sauce, echt rot Kohl of memories long past, sauerkraut to rival a sophisticated Alsatian choucroute, scrumptious ultra creamy mushroom soup, breaded pork cutlet to rival any Wienerschnitzel, a stupendous meat ball stuffed cabbage entree swimming in a mushroom cream or tomato sauce. Banish your enormous appetite with a single, solitary visit. Radiantly loving service, a warm enveloping ambience and a bill that comes up enticingly preiswert. A San Francisco neighborhood experience no longer available elsewhere. Review #10987

simply close enough to my grandmothers cooking to be very fun for me. is it great? no. in fact it was better a few years ago. it has stopped growing and may need a new hand in the kitchen. but if you are craving eastern food this is a good stop on your journey. Review #10189

Quality is decent, although prices are really outrageously high for this sort of cuisine. This sort of food is not expensive *in* Poland (where I lived for 2 years), even by Polish standards, so it's shocking to see it so high relative to other SF restaurants. The pierogi are good, the pickle soup nice, but why are the prices so high again? Review #7714

This place is one of kind. First of all, it is located in nice spot where parking is GREAT! I love the service. Great food. Being from european descent, the cooking comes close to homemade food. Try the cream of mushroom soup which I drool over. Defintely recommend it. Review #7419

This restaurant has the best cream of mushroom soup you'll ever have in your entire life! Very rich and very fresh. Don't forget the main dishes, though. I love their stuffed cabbage rolls filled with fluffy rice and ground beef, but my favorite is their meatballs drenched in creamy sauce. It's a pity that they have raised their prices through the years, but that's life under George W. But if you want to treat yourself to something special, run to Old Krakow and fill your bellies with great Polish cuisine. It's guaranteed to be a favorite. PS, don't forget to learn how to pronounce the restaurant's name before you leave. I think it's written in the menu. Review #5262

Cramped little store front that was converted into a home style restaurant. The menu is mostly Polish dishes with a few russian items thrown into appease the locals from the Richmond District. You are forced to listen into your neighbors conversation which will probably be in russian or Polish. The Chicken dish was excellent but the Stroganoff's beef seemed tired like it had been slow to move that week. I will return and compare the cabbage rolls to what my Mom use to make! Review #2609

Great comfort food on a cold day - the pork chop with mashed potatoes is good, and so are the dumplings and the gulash. Wash it down with an authentic Polish beer and smile at the russian-speaking server and you'll feel you are in a different world. Easy parking. Review #2406
