I was in the neighbourhood the other day and had just read that chez nous was closing down...so i had to try it before its gone. Very tiny spot, tables kinda on top of each other and i was there at lunch and it was really loud. My server seemed completely indifferent and uninterested....but i knew going in with the change of hands i might get an uneven experience. They bring you a round "epi" kinda loaf of bread to start...very nice. I had the daily soup...she said it was creamy corn but it tasted more like cream of corn meal...very gritty and was topped with parmesean. Nice flavour though. I had the lamb chops as a "main" 2 very tiny chops for $12. The flavour of the actual meat was good but they were rather grissle laden...so kinda dissapointing. It came with a lavander salt which was very nice. I had a glass of strawberry sangria and to my surprize it was good...thought it might be too sweet but the strawberry was just that some slices of strawberry...but watch out for the clove the Review #19442

Terrific spot for lunch and never had to wait, considering we went on a Tuesday afternoon. The place is low-key and no-fuss. Great small plates to share. The bread is amazing and the service is just as exceptional and friendly. Clink your glasses to good food and friends with some fruity sangria. Review #17293

The food at Chez Nous is uniformly good. But I feel that the small plates concept (of which I am not a big fan in the first place) doesn't always lend itself to this type of food. During my last meal at Chez Nous, one of my friends ordered the kobe beef and the portion was literally the size of a Sacagawea one-dollar coin. Barely enough for one, let alone to share. Then there's the grilled calamari salad, which is so good you won't want to share it. Review #15877

Stopped in for dinner one night with a friend. We had to wait, but they took down my cell phone # & called when the table was ready. Good food & I liked the atmosphere, though nothing stood out too much in particular--the spanakopita was decent. I recall wanting to try more than we did. I think I need to go again to form a stronger opinion. Decent service, not too hovering or intrusive Review #13877

A girlfriend and I dined here after window shopping. Had a nice Pinot Noir. They brought us a fresh baked bread knot that was yummy. The baked goat cheese was amazing. Lamb chops with lavender salt was superb. delicious gnocchi was in a velvety cream sauce. Prompt service without a smile or even eye contact. I do actually like the small plates as I didn't have the opportunity to over eat., which I tend to do too often. Review #11155

I try to limit my trips to Chez Nous (for my waist and wallet), but I crave their food, and I often end up there once a week. They could probably be more clear about the fact that one needs to order at least two plates to be full, as there seems to be some confusion on that point. Recently the place seems to have gotten a little dirty and worn - they need a good cleaning and a paint job. And there are times when the service is just plain slow, even as staff are standing around chatting. But the food is so good, that I can forgive just about anything. I dream about the tarama. I go here for lunch occasionally and am always impressed with the quality but let down by the portion size. I realize the small plates concept but I end up getting 4 small plates to try and fill the grumbling, empty organ inside my body with enough food to justify the $30 check. Why can't someone PLEASE open a burrito shop in Pac Heights? WHITE PEOPLE LIKE BURRITOS, TOO! ***Damn your eyes if you're thinking "La Salsa" is a burrito shop. Damn you! Review #10344

One comment on the other reviews -- this is a "small plates" restaurant. The portions are supposed to be small. That said, I think this place offers excellent value. I come with a few friends and the bill usually runs about $35 apiece including wine. The lamb chops with lavender salt are steller. Review #8881

I really enjoyed this little place. I popped in with a friend on a Sunday afternoon and it was not crowded at all. While the service was not overly friendly she did keep our glasses filled and checked on us regularly. I had the Steamed Mussels with spanish Chorizo, Chili Flakes and garlic. The Chorizo was a nice addition to the sauce and the mussels were fresh and plentiful ($9 a fair portion size for the money). I also had the Roasted Baby Beets with Yellow Wax Beans and Goat Cheese ($8). The veggies had a tangy garlic sauce that played off the rich creamy goat cheese. Yes the portions sizes are small but that’s their gig…small plates that range from $8-12 each. Enjoy! Review #7334

They don't take reservations which is silly, because that means you always have to wait. This place does french tapas and it does it well. Everything we had was sublime, but I have to focus on the lavender lamb chops. Don't miss out on them! One of the best spots in this neighborhood. Review #6880

comments: Yummie food. We ordered gnocchi, the nicoise salad, and scallops, along with some red wine. The food is fantastic, but the portions are so small...there were two of us eating here and we had to order more than just one plate a piece. Our waiter was not really friendly, he kind of threw our drinks to us, however the service was alright (prompt). It was just too pricey. We ordered the scallop dinner for $12 and when 2 scallops arrived on the plate, I almost said, "two scallops?!!". The bread was really good because it had walnuts in it. I probably won't go back here to eat. Review #4330

I've only been here for lunch, but have been underwhelmed each time. The food is decent, but nothing special. The space is so crowded that your table is constantly knocked by wait staff and other patrons trying to maneuver around tables. Makes for a distracting experience. The frites are good as are the salads. Specials are not explained or announced - you need to get a look at the specials board on your own if you want to know what they are. The bread they bring to the table is fantastic. Review #3822
