“ I grew up on the east coast, first learned about In-n-out from the Big Lebowski, overall I was pretty impressed the first time I went there. The burger is good and fries are excellent, especially when they are animal style. If you are with someone else, i don't recommend you both getting animal style though because it's a little too much. It is what it is...it's a fast food place and it sure beats McDonalds and other other mystery meat chains. ”

“ If you've got to get that fast food fix it's got to be here. Burgers and fries are far superior than MacDonalds, Burger King or pretty much any other fast food joint. The shakes are not that great though. ”

“ The Cat's Meow of fast food! All California, all style. Order yours animal style, if are in the know with these guys. The milk shakes are epic and the french fries are as fresh as can be. They cut the potatoes right in front of you for god's sake! Always a big line, but well worth the wait.

“ ANIMAL STYLE! Goopy, but worth the $2.00 you'll have to spend on "Shout!" at Walgreens after you spill this stuff all over yourself like a pig. I love In N Out...it's the only fast food joint I'll ever frequent, I think. Unless you count Rubio's. Oh, I guess that's fast food, too...what the Hell...it's all good. ”

“ Like all other In-n-Out burger joints, this was a great place to eat a nice juicy, tasty burger. Place is busy and fairly clean. Took some people from out of the country here and they love it. The double-double was great as usual. Beats McDs any day.

“ Always good, even on an atkins style diet the lettuce wrapped burgers are still yum. Learn the secret menu so you can try Animal Style or others...
http://www.zenlemur.com/innout.shtml
Occasionally, as a guy, I will try and out-do myself by ordering by the patty (see secret menu) like a 5x5 (5 patties and 5 slices of cheese) I know ridiculous, but fun! :)

“ Had to go here cause my brother who lives in a culinary wasteland was in town and was balking at the cost of food here. I have been to a couple of these places before, once in Marin and once in Pinole. Um, yuck. The fries have been so disappointing that I just leave them laying there, a soggy mushy no potato mess. Ick. The burgers are suppose to have the highest quality of beef used in the fast food industry... too bad the meat is without taste. Was super disappointed in the food here, all 3 hideous times. The paper hats are fun. If you can't eat wheat, you can get a lettuce burger which is a burger wrapped in large iceberg lettuce leaves. Nice try but a messy proposition for eating and still a not tasty meal. Prices are about as cheap as you will find and the food is correspondingly cheap. Want a real burger? Head to Kelly's in the Mission. 3 or 4x the price and ten thousand times better in taste and quality. ”

“ This is like a freebie review. I like In and Out. It's cheap, fast, fresh food mass produced by Christians. I love surprising my friends with their little bible references printed on the packaging, it "shocks and awes" them. I also like to order the "insiders" burgers. I usually only dine at I-n-O when on the road, but sometimes, I meander down to the Wharf for a cheap treat. ”

“ Why anyone would think these guys make good burgers is beyond me. Ok, I guess we can define what a burger is, like old Bill?s what is sex? To me a burger is something that drips massive amounts of grease, has some charring on the meat, and is at least ? inch thick when done. AND you only become satisfied when the last bit of soggy bun has to be licked between your fingers! The in/out is not that. It is too sterile of a burger, the meat is thin, and usually overcooked (try the meat without all the stuff) it has NO taste, well maybe like cardboard, Ok, it?s better than MCD, so what? It?s a mass produced average tasting meat sandwich, which you get with fresh non crispy dry fries. The only positive comment is that the place looks like a hospital operating room, (clean). I want my burgers from a place that is teetering on being shut down by the health department for being too unhealthy for you! So, if your idea that IN/out is your ideal burger, go for it, I need more goop for my money! ”

“ The burgers are okay, but I think the fries are horrible. They're really dry. If I am going to be unhealthy & eat fries, then I want to enjoy them in all of their good-greasy-ness! And, if I am going to be bad and eat a fast-food burger, it'll be at McDonald's. Look for the sneaky John 3:16 printed on their packaging. Stealth-conversion. ”

“ This place is to burgers what sushi would be if it was prepared by germans. The food seems perfect, but someone forgot to add the soul. It was not stellar, but good. I always walk out of these places feeling like some kind of freaky Howard Hughes like germophobe. Clean surfaces really are as important as hot food in a place like this. Also - true, it is the wharf, and therefore not a San Franciscan's San Francisco, but it is our city, and places like this only serve to make it much more like anyplace else. You wouldn't find one of these at Pike Place in Seattle. ”

“ For fast food, it's one of the best. It just has a clean taste versus one of the other fast food joints around. Animal style fries are awesome. And there is always the secret menu, like a 3 by meat, (three patties, no cheese) and even those watching their carbs can order a burger "protein style", which is a burger without the bun, wrapped in lettuce. Great shakes! A bit out of the way, and NO self respecting San Franciscan would EVER go to the Wharf for food! But for here, I might make an exception! ”

“ I feel sorry for the majority of our country who never get to experience a double-double animal style with a side of animal style fries. I don't care if I do have to go to Fisherman's Wharf to get my fix, better than going through the golden arches. The latter of which, of course, will never cross my palette again. ”

“ I love the fries here!
This is where I'll go for my french fri fix and wash it down with a Strawberry shake. If you're a meat eater and really hungry, get a 2 x 2 or 3 x 3. The numbers mean how many patties of meat and cheese. So order according to your appetite. ”

“ Still the best among fast food burger chains. Very southern californian fresh! No microwaves, no frozen fries/patties, very inexpensive for this kind of quality. However, no warm, pleasant smiles at the Fisherman Wharf location. It also feels weird to find it frequented mostly by SF locals. I thought it was part of the californian tour for tourists. This must be the busiest location with long lines. This gives the place a fast paced feel. I am accustomed to the warm service and easy pace I usually find at other locations. However, the food is still good and I give it a positive for being the only chain I know without microwaves. ”

“ I've been a fan for over a decade. The fries actually taste like potatos since they're not processed and sprayed with sugar like they are at "the clown's place" (why do you think they brown evenly?). The shakes are made from ice cream mix, not shake mix. The burgers are fresh and tasty -- ask for them "animal style" i.e. grilled onions. Everytime I bring a guest from out of town (or the country) they love it. ”

“ Really the only fast food burger that doesn't make me feel dirty after I have eaten it. I think the fries are terrible (you can make good fresh cut fries if you do them the traditional belgian way with is to fry once at low heat to cook through then a second time at super high heat to crisp them up. No processing and sugar needed. They don't do this here as a result the fries are yucky in my opinion) and the milkshakes are standard soft serve gunk (may be real ice cream but it isn't very good real ice cream), so just order two burgers, you won't be disappoited. ”

“ I'm a McDonald's fan. There. I said it. Yeah i saw Supersize Me and totally agree that you shouldn't eat the stuff every flippin' day but it does bring back good childhood memories and once in a blue moon, i like to go there and have a happy meal. That said, if you want a REALLY good fast food burger, you should try In n'Out. The special sauce which i think is probably just thousand island dressing is very tasty. However, their fries are not so exciting. They're limp and floppy- not crispy the way i believe a fry ought to be. ”

“ Let's face facts...IN N OUT kicks serious burger ass. I tried my first double double animal style in 1988 when I was going to USC as a freshman and have never looked back. In N Out is the only fast food spot that I don't mind waiting for. As the regulars know, you can order your burgers special such as the "animal style" which comes with grilled onions, thousand island, and pickles, the "3x3" which is 3 patties if you can wrap your mouth around that bad boy, and even the "grilled cheese" for you non meat eaters which isn't on the menu. A classic that may be the best fast food chain out there...I'm sure many would agree. ”

“ Probably the best fast food burger there is. Everything is very fresh (potatoes are cut for your fries to order). Very limited choice, but they concentrate on what they do best: burgers and fries. They have a "secret" list of menu items that are not hard to decipher. Here is a new one I just learned: "fried animal" = cheese fries topped with their famous grilled onions. Not to be missed... ”

“ Among the best of the chain fast food burger places, but you're in San Francisco. Why would you want to go to a fast food burger place when there's infinitely better food in any given direction, and probably within a block or two? ”

“ I love In & Out Burger, however this particular establishment is over priced! They charge close 2 $3 more per meal than the In & Out in Daly City, just to gouge tourists perhaps. I highly recommend In & Out Burger, fresh meat burgers & fresh cut fries, "animal style" for both awesome. But I DO NOT recommend one that charges extra for the same exact food. Go check out the In & Out in Daly City, it is right off the 280 Highway (South Side) ”

“ I'm not much of a burger person, but I do like In-n-Out burgers. They taste much fresher compared to McD's or any of the other burger chains. I never order burgers when I'm out at non-chain restaurants though, as I don't particularly care for them. I like McD's fries better (bring on the lard!), but I think In-n-Out fries aren't very good. Their shakes are very good though. Thick and really full of flavor. I don't think this would be a good place for tourists, but for locals who want a quick bite when they're on the Wharf, this is a good place to go. But many people that I know who visit from the East Coast are DYING to try In-n-Out, and I give them a funny look. I guess it's the same, though, because I say to them that I'd like to try White Castle Burgers and East Coast people look at me like I'm crazy. ”

“ The great In & Out burger joint where the food is cheap and taste! The burgers are like Whitecastle belly bombs of grease with grilled onions. The thin well-salted fries are nice and the traditional flavors of milkshakes are awesome! This place is in a prime tourist spot so it can get really crowded and at times. On the weekends it feels like your back in "high school" of who's who and I'm to cool profilers. ”

“ Ok, so it's really good for the price and compared to other fast food places, but you are supporting a fundamentalist, anti-abortion funding family by eating there! And yet I must admit I eat there several times a year - usually when travelling aroung the state. (Why, oh why, do they have to be psycho-religious?! By the way, so are the owners of Dominoes pizza, Carl's Jr. and Wendy's) ”
