“ wow, I was here for a private HP lunch today. I would write the normal positive review that this place should deserve, with all this preparation for dry aged meat, which is one of my hobbies, I'm fascinated with the process and who does it well. Point. my Prime rib was so tough, I mean the difference between cutting with a butter knife and have to ask for a steak knife to get through it. It was like wood shop, Obviously this must not be regular, I'm just reporting on the my experience. photo of lunch.

“ I made reservations but waited almost an hour to be seated. Its not worth while making reservations if the restaurant cannot live up to it. The food here is decent but the high price does not justify the quality of food. San Francisco has many good restaurants, this is not one of them. ”

“ This was a good place to try. The steaks are pretty good. I also remember the chocolate terrine I had very dessert, which was deliCIOUS! The bread is served very warm with butter, which is always a plus for me when trying restaurants. ”

“ For the money you're playing... if I had to choose between Harris's or Ruth Chris... Ruth Chris wins hands down. The taste and quality of the meat is definately superior at RC. The steak here isn't bad... it's pretty good actually, but for about the same $$ why not go to RC for a great steak! Not to mention the people in here did seem a bit more snobby. ”

“ They do a nice job and I would eat there again, but it does not "ring my bell" to the extent of Alfred's and Morton's. The meats are first rate and cooked to perfection. A nice restaurant with good value. ”

“ I love this place! Harris' has THE BEST Bloody Mary I've ever had. The bartender is an older guy who has had time to perfect his own Bloody Mary concoction. When I ordered Grey Goose, I got a nice glass of it AND some extra chilled in a tiny carafe in its own tiny ice bucket.
I've had the mussels here, which are very good. As is the wafu steak and the buffalo steak. But by far, my favorite is one of the house specials: Filet Mignon Rossini (filet mignon with grilled Sonoma foie gras and black truffle cabernet sauce). The last time I was here, I swapped the filet out for a nice juicy ribeye and split the portion with my cousin. PERFECTION!!
This is one of my "celebration" restaurants. However, the portions are enormous. Skip the salad. Skip the bread. Go straight for the steak...and get a side of creamed spinach.
The service is always impeccably friendly. The sommelier is also very knowledgable and unpretentious. ”

“ Want BEEF?!? Come hungry, leave in a wheelchair! Great prime rib. Don't really dig the atmosphere, but if you're with friends, who cares? Actually, if you sit in the bar the atmosphere's pretty ok. Definately a meat lovers' paradise. ”

“ A little pricey for the value but the meat is terrific. A spot for business dinners or a romantic night out. The service is excellent and not too overbearing. The decor is elegant but very plain. ”

“ Harris is a good steak house option within the Steak Triangle on Van Ness. You have the House of Prime Rib, and Ruths Chris just blocks away. The aged prime beef is tasty, as well as the vodka martinis that are on the APPETIZER menu...gotta love that. The prices are fair as high end steak houses go as you also get your potato and side with your steak, as opposed to a la carte @ Ruths. Funny thing about Harris, they don't get their beef from Harris Ranch due to a family squabble, at least that's what I remember hearing while drunk @ the Harris Ranch on I-5. A mandatory stop anytime anyone is driving between SF and LA.

“ I tried at the House of Prime Rib, but could not get in, so Harris's should have been a good 2nd choice. Not, the Steak Tartar was excellent, the Caesar salad, had gooey mayonnaisey style dressing on it, and my Rare prime rib, was medium with a little a jus on it. After I asked if they had anything rarer, I was advised that that was it! ( 8:00 pm) Well, a good place would have clued me in advance that my Rare meant Medium and allowed me the choice. The wait staff was efficient and attentive, the atmosphere nice and quiet, but the experience was less than satisfactory. Menu items are a little pricy, $ 37 bucks for a slab of Medium Prime Rib. I will know next time, and just wait until the House of Prime Rib is less crowded. Valet parking was nice, but dinner was OK, for the money it should have been Great! This use to be the Grisson Steak house, in the good old days. Anyone remember that? ”

“ Steaks are very good here, but they are quite expensive (I paid $30 for mine). The waits can be very long, but I think it's worth it overall because there's not too many non-chain restaurants that specialize in steaks anymore. ”

“ Filet Mignon was excellent with the most perfect bearnaise sauce. Very pricey but you will get an excellent steak. Honestly, I could make one as good for 1/4 of the price. Wonderful for a romantic evening. ”

“ yum yum red meat. wine that we ordered was good. the petite filet was prepared excellently, but we got filled up fast on the side dishes and the bread/crackers (we had to wait for a while). the prime rib was prepared well as well, and the chicken is surprisingly good. but be prepared to spend big bucks here. ”

“ Harris's has wonderfully fabulous aged beef that they raise on their own ranch in central California. The dining room and the patrons are as old as the hills. they charge for everything. at Ruth's Chris-all steaks come with 1 side dish but Harris's is plus, plus, plus. Staff is very stiff, no humor at all. A bit rich for my blood, I am not the meat eater in the family but was happy with my lobster. ”
