“
I had a very nice dinner at Moose's the other night. It was my first time there and I really enjoyed the bar. Bartender was very friendly and made some nice martini's . I also loved the live music. I think it adds a lot to your dinning experience!
Waitress was a tad on the slow side. It took her 15 mins to get our bottle of wine and then she did not bring us the right glasses. Oh well, the wine was good. For food, the three of us had the fillet, pork chop, and the wild salmon. They were all cooked perfectly. Why only three starts then? Well, they were not really accompanied with any sides. It was a bit odd. The pork chop came with a tiny amount of pasta, but it had no flavor. I think if they worked on the sides, it would really help. The quality of the meat was excellent and the chef did stop by out table, BTW. ”

“ i had dinner with 2 friends last sunday evening. our server, the brunette woman with glasses was very condescending. she behaved as if she was better than the diners. even on a slow sunday evening, for some reason dinner took 3 hrs for apps, entree, and dessert, no wine. there are far too many other restaurants worth your hard earned $. ”

“
Don't go if you are hungry. Yes, the food was excellent but the portions were way too small. We were a party of 4 and two people ordered fettuccine with mushrooms and 2 ordered the scallops. The scallop entree consisted of 3 scallops, 2 or 3 mashed brusell sprouts and some lentils. It was attractively presented and quite tasty, however, the size was that of a small appetizer not a $26.00 entree.
Our friends enjoyed their fettucine with mushrooms but again it was appetizer size. We also felt that the menu had few choices. They had several meat entrees, one pasta and two fish (salmon and scallops).
We spent approximately $145. before tip for our four mini entrees, one salad, one glass of wine, one small bottle of sparkling water and two coffees. We left feeling ripped off and overcharged. ”

“ Great California cuisine in an almost entirely italian neighborhood. I have been there around 6 different times and have never been disappointed. Great service and killer food. They have some really nice bartenders that know how to make great drinks in a hurry. During the North Beach Fair, Moose's is the best place to grab a cocktail or six and chill out on the inside away from the chaos.... ”

“ It seems alot of these higher priced places run along the same lines. Great presentation of food, great ambiance, great decor, everything is great except for the food. It just doesn't satisfy. I'm sure we all know the feeling of being full, but not satisfed. As a foodie, it's not a good feeling. Especially after shelling out $$$. Also it should be noted that the crowd to me seemed a bit old and stuffy.
I certainly don't mind paying higher prices for higher quality. But, when it comes to restaurants the food should be first and foremost priority #1. I believe in the old saying, you get what you pay for. The higher the prices, the higher should be my expectations and the higher should be the perceived value of my return. What I got for my $160 at Moose's was a cheap meal with an expensive view. I left with my eyes satisfied but my belly wanting.

“ Joshua Capone has considerably upgraded Moose's menu with global cuisine of french sensitivity "kicking up a notch" with attractive multi-course offerings. One occasion offered an exquisite thai squid salad with perfectly flashcooked squid, tender and juicy, with just enough spicy vinaigrette, another occasion a remarkable lentil soup rising to the niveau of french haute cuisine with real wow factor, obviously couched in red wine, sprinkled with grated hazelnuts and showcased with a dollop of sour cream. A delicious chicken breast with wing drumette drizzled with a red wine reduction sauce over a bed of greens and mashed potatoes exhilarated. Creative desserts have also debuted, including a delectable pear poached in red wine with gorgonzola ice cream. Overlooking Washington Square from floor-length windows offers one of San Francisco's most satisfying restaurant views. Congenial, distracted service and institutionalized men's club atmosphere, but Moose's is still appealing. ”

“ Very good food, though the broccoli soup was unexciting. Pecan creme caramel dessert was astoundingly good. Great old-school fancy restaurant atmosphere including a piano-based jazz combo, big chandliers, etc. Very friendly, helpful waitstaff. Pork shoulder and bacon & potato-wrapped Hake were alo highlights ”

“ Gotta give my "namesake" resturant a good review. Make a visit during my time in San Francisco. Have had great service everytime, love the open air kitchen. MooseBurger is one of my favourites. The Ceasar Salad is huge and very filling.
Yes, Moose's is a bit pricey- but there is that adage you get what you pay for. ”

“ Moose's is a San Francisco classic - with a new chef that is putting this place back on the map. I ate there tonight - and had a great meal. The atmosphere was buzzing, the jazz music was great, the wine list had great choices in every price range, and most importantly everyone loved our food. The Ribeye steak was excellent, the loin of pork was perfectly matched with fresh corn/zucchini/walla walla onions, the halibut with mussels worked, and the only ho hum dish was the mushroom ravioli. The Caesar was perfect too. Was it expensive? All totaled it was - but this restaurant is special and the cost was well worth it. Will I go back? Absolutely. The Serious Chocolate dessert was phenomenal!
I think what makes this restaurant unique is the fact that there are business men and women, politicos, tourists, yuppies, ladies who lunch, and SF society all in one room - just like Stars in it's heyday.
I also learned that on Monday nights they have 50% off on bottles of wine $70 and under. ”

“ Been here 3 or 4 times -- and agree with everyone that it is quite expensive. But I think the food is great and the experience of eating at the restaurant makes it worthwhile. I enjoy a splurge once in a while -- and I like that the clientele at Moose's is mature, people dress decently, and there aren't cell phones going off every 5 minutes. ”

“ The place was so loud you couldn't have a decent conversation. The food was bland and kind of boring (my girlfriend didn't even eat hers). For the money, there are just too many other great restaurants in SF to waste you time with this one. ”

“ I like Ed Moose's restaurant Moose's. I started coming here in the early 90s for lunch with my buddies working in the Financial District, and have several great meals there. The burgers have always been solid, the lamb shank, steaks. Prices are high and the staff can have a little "tude", but I've had many a great afternoon throwing back great cocktails and snacking away with good friends. ”

“ My husband & I took our Mom's here for Mother's Day & it was not a very good choice. My husband love's eating at the counter for brunch. He's not crazy about the crowd, but thought it would be nice for a Mother's Day Brunch. Our waiter was very RUDE. Perhaps he thought we were a bunch of amateurs going out on Mother's Day, but nonetheless his attitude was unwarranted. He acted as if he was Mr. Superior and treated us like we were idiots. I ordered Halibut w/ Green beans w/ a shrimp saffron sauce (yum). When asked for bread, they said they do not have any and served us coffee cake. C'mon, if your serving hearty meals w/ sauce, don't you think someone should have remembered to order bread? Perhaps my dining experience will be better on a "non-hustle bustle day" ”
