Good pizza, but not such a nice environment to hang out.

Great southeast asian flavors in a fun atmosphere and very diverse crowd. Poleng deserves all the local recognition it has received in the past year. Start with the Banana-ketchup sweet potato fries, get the garlic crab noodles, add another dish or two, and finish with the best bread-pudding you'll ever taste. To drink: Greyhound (with fresh-pressed grapefruits) or go for a pint of Sapporo. Review #19596

Poleng Lounge is a nice place. It looks a little small when you first walk in, but it has a nice large room in the back that makes it twice as big, and it had a nice dance floor in the back during late nights on fri and sat. The food is good, but like the others say, its a little small on the portions and a little over expensive. But the overall experience is pretty good. Review #19233

Good but overrated. $5 for a cup of tea. Great house curry, but too hot for some folks. We'll go back just for the curry. Maybe the Bay Area's best calamari - tres ungreasy, but coulda been a bigger serving. Yellowfin Poke was good, as was the burned satay; but nothing you'd write home about. Gindara cod was very good, but when isn't it? Huge serving of string beans, but nothing special about them besides being green. chinese chicken salad was good, but tasted just like all the other good chinese chicken salad you've had in your life. Great experience! I had a huge sampling of dishes, and most were outstanding. I loved the calamari, the curry, the satay, the Golden Gindara (awesome cod), and a generous portion of stir fried snake beans. The noodles, chicken salad, ahi poke, samosas, and super small pots of tea were good but not stand-outs. You basically can't go wrong with anything on the menu. Definitely will be back! Review #17852

What a great addition to the neighborhood! We had the crispy calamari, crispy adobo wings, salpicao, fried shrimp (thanks for leaving the heads on--very appreciated), and the bread pudding w/coconut tapioca...and lots of drinks that followed. All 3 of us were full and the price wasn't bad. The owners have done a great job revamping a location that has struggled through quite a few iterations. Review #16885

I had a great experience here, even though I went in expecting the worst. Ive been in the neighborhood for a while and have seen the many incarnations that 1751 Fulton has been thru. By far Poleng has done the best job thus far. I came in on a Thursday night, with out reservations, but still managed to get seats for a friend and I at the bar. We had the poke' with fried gyoza skins, the garlic crab noodles, papaya salad, snake beans and tomatoes, and crispy adobo wings with achara (definitely the star of the night). Poleng offers an interesting menu of cocktails pairing tea and fresh fruit juice, with top shelf liquor. I was a skeptic honestly, but tried the watermelon green beam and pleasantly surprised. For a small plates restaurant I thought that the pricing was fare, and the portions were just right, albeit I couldve had 2 or 3 more adobo wings....but thats just 'cause they were such crunchy goodness. My friend Loren recommended this restaurant and boy am I glad she did! Make sure you make reservations as we were greeted with, "Oh, there are no seats availabe since we got the great reviews. Do you mind sitting at the bar?" To the bar we sat, I was very unlucky and ended up with the wobbly stool then the waiter/bartender (I like to call him Grumpy Pecs) gave us only two menus (there were three of us), so it was an inauspicious start at best, but Poleng more than redeemed herself once our orders started streaming in: salt and pepper crispy calamari, adobo wings with achara, beef tenderloin salpicao with bone marrow, garlic crab noodles and finally bread pudding with tapioca pudding. Everything was stellar, which leads me to this review. I will have to join the band wagon and add to the great accolades this new restaurant has been getting. Chic, only slightly pretentious ambience, great food, achara, inconsistent service, and bone marrow equals a fun evening out with friends! Review #16476

Great new Western Addition spot. This is the old Storyville location. The new owners have completely revamped the interior (southeast asian zen teahouse vibe), and even knocked out the front brick wall and installed huge windows to allow natural light to spill inwards and illuminate the renovations. The fare is asian/southeast asian street cart food revamped by a californian cuisinier. Well priced ahi poke, dumplings, sake infused deep fried shrimp, new approaches to sate and green curry mussels, and some unusual fare like bone marrow. Presentation is immaculate, pricing is very fare, and consistently delicious. But that just covers the food! Poleng is also a tea house/sake bar, and they have invented some really original cocktails. They use top shelf sake, mixed with fresh fruit purees, and infused with fine tea. If you linger, you will more than likely find yourself at one of the nightly club events hosted on the dance floor in the back. Good spot for dinner, drinks and dancing. Review #15200
