“ Family owned chain of 5 or 6 locations. I've eaten at 3 of them. This one cooks the best food. Located east side of San Rafael, "the canal district" which is the barrio. This is the largest and best restaurant in the neighborhood. Festive & funky interior, hanging Xmas lights, carved fake Mayan wood furniture. Raised platform with canopy dining area for parties. Place is usually busy and full of chatty happy energy. The food is hearty typical mexican selections. Big menu of the usual suspects: Carne Asada, Carnitas, Huevos Rancheros, Sopes, Tacos, Burritos. Large portions. Think Chevy's except this food is really good. Full bar, lots of tequila shots to sample. Wait staff & bartender have been here forever, they've seen it all & still have a sense of humor. You get extra points if you speak spanish well. Dinner for two with plenty of beer will run $40. With the money you save on dinner, you can go across the street to bowl a few games at the last remaining Marin alley. ”
