“ I ate here once because of the good reviews I've read . But it was a let down, I did not like the food, too bland and expensive. I think this is the most over rated restaurant in the bay area. ”

“ We were in line for 10 minutes but didn't mind it because we thought that this must be a good restaurant judging from the long line of customers. But what a disappointment! The food was mediocre and too pricey. Worst, the service was too slow. Sometimes, I make terrible decisions, dining at Tadich was one of them. ”

“
Out of town treaters just had to see the oldest restaurant in the city if not the west coast. I offered to cover the 40 dollar parking tab while they picked up the tab for Chopin Martinis, cioppino and cheesecake! White jacketed professional life term food servers orchestrated touchdowns in the packed noisy ruckus dining room. My solitary fried food platter was my quota of delight, with tender crispy morsels of correctly bathed chunks of fish will provide sufficient memories until the next family tourist shows up sporting an American Express card!
All had fun, lost our famine memories and had fun and best of all, were entertained by the staff. Bravo, worth a encore! ”

“ Totally swanky. Went here on a date with a successful hunky guy - that's where they take their dates. He ordered a whole fish and dove right into it - bones and all. I had some salmon that was good. It's a very nice place and makes you feel classy. ”

“ Dad says, “I want seafood for dinner” I pulled that Tadich card out with glee. Oops! The entrees were barely passable. The halibut was terribly overcooked and had no flavor, the saffron sauce was in reality a bland broth. The service was un-nerving, we couldn't tell if he was trying to be funny or rude. My Mother asked if they had flavored tea, waiter said, “Yes, tea” (pause, Mother looks confused and inquires again) waiter, “Tea” long pause, “Our tea is TEA flavored” More comments like this followed, as if he had been asked the same questions over and over and had a flip answer for all of them and we were simple country folk that didn't understand his big city humor (demeaning, not so funny). Don't mess with my Mama. He was more upbeat and kind toward the end of the meal, not sure why. Not really interested in returning, soured on Tadich. ”

“ Classic San Francisco restaurant at its finest. Fresh seafood is what they serve here (over 125 menu items to choose from!). My friend took me here recently for my birthday and we had a great experience from the impeccable service to the stiff cocktails. We started with the crab legs appetizer and wow was this delicious! They shell the crab legs for you- so its just sweet crab meat. The star of the meal was the Chilean Seabass with the most perfectly grilled crust and moist delicious fish inside. Everything bite was amazing. I highly recommend ordering this! My friends ordered a crab and prawn casserole baked dish- which I have never really seen on a menu but they really enjoyed it. I can't wait to go back!! ”

“
SF oldest restaurant has a lot of charm, but the menu and foods are pretty old fashioned. Can't go wrong with fresh seafoods, but the flavors aren't integrated. And the rice custard pudding was putrid. I told our server and he was sorry I didn't like it but didn't offer to replace it or take it off the bill. Oh well. None of this will stop me from going back. ”

“ Frankly this is without a doubt the worst seafood place in San Francisco; and that is really saying a lot given that we should have some of the best seafood anywhere. Their reputation is way too old as seems the food . The service is absolutely the worst of anywhere I have ever been and the prices are simply too high. There is no value here and the worst part is they do not care. No comments on any of the overcooked or mediocre food are met with anything but a shrug as if to say "So what? Go somewhere else". I will. If you want great seafood try Aqua, Farallon, Sam's Grill, Plouf or the Yankee Pier. ”

“ An old SF institution that feels like you've stepped into a time warp. Don't come here on a Friday night if you don't like the hustle and bustle of the financial district crowd. Stick with the seafood....steamed clams are the best. Meats are a little over done.

“ The best old school waiters in the city and an awesome menu coupled with the atmosphere that the Tadich provides is the reason you will always want to go back. A great place for a weekday power lunch with strong cocktails or a Sunday brunch with epic Bloody's. Right on the cable car line to complete the old San Francisco experience

“ Another good place to take visitors from out-of-town, if anything for the traditional wood decor and crotchety, white-clothed male waiters with bifocals. Food is traditional and reliable. You can feel equally comfortable dining alone at the bar or in an enclosed booth with your friends/family.

“ This is old school as you can get. Have a drink while you wait at teh bar. Lots of locals and business types there. Then go to a private booth and yuck it up with your friends. I love the booth over the regular tables. The seafood and is good but can be uneven and inconsistent. Sometimes great but sometimes cold and dry, like the calamari. Still a great place to hang out right after work and take clients to. Historical and old time SF all the way. Waiters are usually old cranky guys with a humor. Just have fun when you go there. ”

“ Tadich is definitely an institution, but the last time I was there I was suprised how overcooked our fish entrees came out. I mean bone dry. I used to grab a quick lunch with some of my college buddies that work in the Financial District and have had solid meals from the steaks to the seafood, but my last visit really suprised me. Waits can be long...I love old school restaurants from the ambiance to the old schoot waiters and Tadich is a fave, but I find myself giving Tadich more props for what it is than the food. I think if I was looking for kick a** seafood, I would walk over to Aqua instead...if I wanted the old SF experience, Tadich will fit the bill.

“ I've eaten here 50 times since 1973. Have always had from passable to very good meals. I always order the fish or seafood. Have never bothered with chicken or beef.
On a recent weeknight I brought 2 out-of town companions here for dinner, and proceeded to have the best meal I've ever had at Tadich!
The red snapper was off-the-boat fresh and pan seared perfectly. My friends hooted with joy over their dungeness crab and Ahi tuna. Even the creamed spinach was the best I've had here & I've ordered it 30 times.
We drank crisp dry white Napa wines that are a perfect marriage for this essential Northern California cooking.
The kitchen really was in winning stride this night.
Our young server was on his 3rd day of employment and arrival in San Francisco. His enthusiasm was a bit overwhelming, we took his hyper-activity in good stride.
I love it when a good ol' standby restaurant hits a home run. Shows why Tadich has been in business since the birth of San Francisco. ”

“ Tadich is a SF institution and you can wait more than an hour for a table. Get there before 11:30 am for lunch and before 5:30 pm for dinner, and you might get a table without waiting.
The food is good and the service is excellent.
A must for any visitor..like going to New Orleans and not eating at Antoines or Gallatores.

“ This is the classic San Francisco experience, and we have been eating there for 25 years. While even the best place can have an off night, I have to say I have never had a bad meal here. I don't expect innovation or trendy sauces. But I get what I do expect -- fresh fish (especially if I ask the waiter or the broiler chef for a recommendation), tasty veggy sides and spectacular long branch potatoes. The petrale sole on the mesquite charcoal broiler is a must-try for every newcomer to San Francisco, and the Hangtown Fry is California history on a plate. ”

“ I'm so dissapointed with this place. I've been wanting to try it forever and now that I have I'm not feeling it wasn't worth the wait. Tried the mixed seafood salad---not bad...but I was comparing it to Swans and it didnt stand up in my opinion. I had the lunch special of seabass---suggested by the waiter. It would have been really good if it wasn't overcooked...if seafood is thier specialty they should know how to cook it. My dining companion had the ono---also recommended by the waiter and it to was overcooked---thought the mango salsa helped keep the taste up.
After all the rave reviews I feel like I have been cheated...but I don't think I will give it another try...to many great places...especially when you are talking $100 for lunch! ”

“ If you have to go for one sea-food place in the city, THIS IS IT. There may be fancier, there may be "neater" places than Tadich Grill, but there will be very few with the same feeling and style as the place.
Don't go if you expect to be in and out-there is almost always a line. Do go if you want to enjoy good seafood. And, enjoy it in good company.
It is a little pricy, but it's definitely a case of you get what you pay for. And, you're getting great, classic seafood. ”

“ Tadich has the best crab louie in the city, hands down. Be prepared to wait at least 30 minutes for a table around dinner time, but it's worth it. Oh and don't be turned off by the abrupt wait staff, they're just used to the regulars who already know what they want when they walk in the door. ”

“ Tadich's claim to fame is that they are THE oldest restaurants in SF. The waiters take pride in the place they're at and the food they serve; they know their stuff. Food portions are HUGE, the food is fresh, and they have great steak and fish. You need to go there hungry. Alot of regulars there. Thumbs up!....except for the lunch wait. ”

“ Been going here for 15 years. it's jam-packed all the time and well worth it! I've never had a bad meal here, I've never had a mediocre meal here. The food is not pretentious, it's just damn good. They do it well and they do it every time. A warning for lunch, turn up by 11:15 if you don't want to wait. ”

“ Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!
The Tadich Grill ? one of the oldest restaurants in the city ? is located on California Street directly next door to Aqua. A passion for seafood and their proximity is the greatest similarity between the two.
Walk into Tadich ? and you step back in time ? by at least 60 years.
Waiters (only) in starched white coats; pressed tin ceiling. Tadich doesn?t take reservations, it?s busy, crowded and noisy. Legend has it that the Rolling Stones ate their three times on their last bay area tour. Tadich is an old time fishmonger?s dream-come-true with generous portions of well-prepared fresh fish. Swordfish, monkfish, sand dabs, and sole are all crowd pleasers. You will not go home hungry.
On the woof-o-meter Tadich scores 5 of 5 Woofs.
Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof! Woof!

“ this is 1 of the oldest SF restaurants, from the mid 1800's-around goldrush time. They are so old world, dark paneling, a counter for singles {they do have a $9 or 10.00 minimum}and booths with buzzers to call the waiters who have been there for 50 years themselves, or so it seems. we love the crab cake app., the calamari and the sand dabs. they offer great wines by the glass. They don't take res. and lunch is a zoo, but that is when it is the most fun. take a step back in time. ”

“ What I love about this place is, if you try and order something that it is off, the waiter will give you body language by not writing anything down on his pad and suggest something else. These guys are professional waiters and have been there forever. The food is plain and simple and GREAT. This hangout is what the typical city restaurant was 50. 75, 100 years ago. Kind of place you keep coming back to, over and over. A must go! ”

“ Take a step inside and you are reqarded with an instant hike into San Francisco, circa 1911. And the waiters have been there ever since. Seating booths so intimate you'll expect to find a dark lady in a snood seated in one. Do not be fooled by others' culinary fool's gold - this place is the real thing in local San Francisco-style seafood preparations. Bread and clam chowder always good. Moderately expensive, but worth every penny ”

“ Cioppino Bellissimo, served with righteous bread. No wonder there's the occasional wait at the door, but it's definitely worth it. And so what? A properly mixed Martini so righteously preludes that ocean laden tomato sauce... ”

“ I've been coming here for 28 years. I have to say that they do have some pretty good food for lunch. I like the daily specials because you can get a nice piece of fresh fish grilled to perfection with some steamed veggies and big steak fries. The crab and shrimp salad is a terrific dish because you get a big handful of crab on your salad along with the hard boiled eggs, lots of shrimp and then you can just sit back and enjoy the fresh seafood. They do this in a small or large portion so you can have a cup of chowder and the dinner salad and be fine. They now serve Boudin bread because Parisisan went out of business (I hear it's because of union labor issues). My last visit there was 3/13/06 ”
