Good pizza, but not such a nice environment to hang out.

Picaro is one of my favorite places, we go there very often and we recommend it to our friends, because their GREAT SERVICE, personalized service, excellent Paella, tapas and deliCIOUS SANGRIA, so tasty that I want to go back now. We eat there at least twice a month and the people who help us are always so nice and friendly (M.J) I highly recommend this place to celebrate parties. We celebrated my birthday there this year, everybody was happy with the service, paella and sangria and was not expensive at all for 16 guests. I this this restaurant is unique because of the service and good food and also because of the space inside is not to narrow ,so you can enjoy your meal without banging another customers eating. "I think I ate about a cup of mayo at that place," said my friend after we left Picaro. Hey, that's all right by me. I dig mayonnaise, but be forewarned that mayo dips will be served squarely on top of most of your food. We ordered widely, from rabbit stew to spicy potatoes, and everything satisfied that grease-tooth you sometimes get when drinking beer. Non-grease food consisted of asparagus and the bunny stew, which was richly dark broth-wise. I'd love to tell you the cost of the dishes, but I wasn't really on the ball that night. I think most plates run in the $8-$12 range. Some of the non-meat items were slightly less, if I recall. Fried calamari was decently chewy and decently tender. The space itself is much bigger than I thought it would be. This place goes all the way back to a patio, so there's ample room to find a table, even if it looks crowded from the front windows. We went with a group of about 12 people and we all had a good time; although it gets loud and you have to shout or play musical chairs in order to speak with everyone. All the dishes were good except maybe the meatballs. We had the calamari (fried and sauteed), mushrooms, spanish omlettes, asparagus, mini sausages, potatoes (2 ways)... all were pretty garilicy. Fun place for tapas, sometimes the mariachi singers will perform for the guests which certainly adds to the experience. food is ok, love their spicy garlic sauce, somehow this place measures up to the stinking rose for the garlic experience. surely order a sangria. good place for a big group Review #14043

This place is great to go with a group of friends too. tapas are OK. The Sangria is OK. This place can get crowded, loud and busy real fast. There were 2 birthday parties on the same night. Reasonably priced though. Review #8810

I had the fortune of having come here after 2 weeks in Barcelona and Madrid. I was pleasantly surprised that the food was just as good as--or better than--the tapas food we had in Spain. The patatas bravas and mushrooms were a favorite with us. They have an extensive menu, too. Not a bad option if Ti Couz's wait is too long. Review #7704

Decent sangria with okay spanish tapas. Tried the paella which was huge in portions but small in taste, in fact the shrimp was a little "stringy". Perhaps an off night and we did sneak in just before closing, but unimpressed. Review #5627

Really good spanish tapas here! Unfortunately, I had one of the worst service experiences here ever. Really slow and got ignored. Maybe they were just having a bad night. The first time I had gone the service was just ok. With Ramblas right around the corner, I have not been back. Review #5297

We stopped by Picaro for some Sangria and an appetizer, before having dinner at Andalu. We should have stayed and eaten here! The Sangria is very reasonable at 14 dollars a pitcher. It is not the best Sangria we've had, but we enjoyed it nevertheless. Picaro smells wonderful when you first come in the order. The tapas and paella are delicious. All the prices are very reasonable, with many of the tapas plates at 6 dollars. A delicious garlicky potato dip and bread is served at each table. Picaro is not a destination restaurant, but definitely a great place to have a great and affordable dinner, while not giving up the Mission area ambiance. I think we'll come back for a birthday dinner - lots of food choices and enough big tables to fit a large party. Review #5055

Love those fried potatoes - better than Cha Cha Cha, if they are really hot when you get 'em! The sangria is very yummy - especially when shared by the pitcher with friends. Everything I tried there was really tasty. I've been there three times and I'm sure I'll be back at some point. Review #528
