“ I have lived in the neighborhood for 10 years and went here for the first time last night! A friend was stopping over on her way home after a trip to Miami, where she ate a lot of exotic food and spent a lot of money. When I asked her what she wanted for dinner, she said "steak". We gave Palace a shot. Our food was above average and definitely worth the $10.99! We both ordered the ribeyes, medium-rare...while it wasn't a huge steak (probably 10 oz.), it was not small either and was cooked perfectly. You order at the counter, and with our dinners we got a salad, baked potato & garlic bread. With a couple of glasses of wine, the total was less than $30. Not a fancy place, but good if you need a cheap meal. It won't take me 10 years to get back there. Oh, and March will be their 37th anniversary! ”

“ Palace Steak House... many a skateboarding video was filmed in the parking lot. The glowing yellow building is hard to miss, but easy to pass by. Unless you're one of the lucky many who know what awaits you inside. Cheap beef. Yes, my friend, slabs of cheap beef, pounded to perfection, grilled to order, and served up with a baked potato drowned in butter and a plank of garlic bread. The salad- iceberg with your choice of onions, garbanzo beans, jalapeno peppers and croutons- is more refreshing than some frou-frou salad. Which is good because Palace is definitely a hangover-but-going-out-again-tonight kind of place. Crack open a slightly cool single-serving bottle of Sutter Home cab to wash it all down and let the world go by through the cow-trinket and international-flag-adorned windows. You'll be out of there for less than $14, even if you get the T-Bone. Once the meat has settled, hit up El Rio or one of the many divey bars in the neighbourhood and do it all over again! ”

“ I love places like this...sort of stuck in time, but not in a contrived way. The Palace is past it's prime and a little worse for the wear, the carpets need cleaned and the tables might, too, but the service is good if you don't mind ordering at the counter and being called honey or sweetie. Menu is all on one big board, so it's easy to make up your mind. The salads are iceberg lettuce but the dressings are homemade. The steaks are good. It made me kind of sad though...no, not sad, melancholy. This is the kind of place I could go and eat, then sit and write in a journal or read for an hour or two. ”
