“ Had breakfast here with my extended family. Like the location, liked the food, liked the company. Food flavors were fresh. I had the french toast. Coffee was good. Service folks were young, energetic, smiling. On a warm sunny day, you can't beat a table at the end of Townsend to fall in love again with SF. ”

“ Had brunch here. Food was good. The mini muffins were good, but for me they are not a draw, did not find anything about them special. Was with a group and we were seated about 15 to 20 minutes after the reservation time. Took a long time to place order and a very long time to get the bill, we ended up having to ask for it. Service was fine. Again it was a group, and I don't recall anyone being asked how the food was, or if we needed anything. They did bring a second basket of muffins. The decor was nice, attractive, but the noise level was too much for me. Too hard to hear people and just too much of a din to be relaxing. Probably fine to go there during a less popular time than weekend brunch. All in all it was a perfectly fine meal, the food was tasty and my polenta was perfect. Would probably go back if in the neighborhood, but will not make a special trip to eat here. Expect brunch mains to run $10 to $15 w/o drinks. ”

“ Never been here for dinner but the brunch on the weekends is to die for. Pork out on basket of complimentary fresh pastries while you examine their extensive breakfast menu for traditional american favorities. Good service and fast turnover but expect a wait unless you get there early to beat the weekend rush. ”

“ the atmosphere here is so pleasant. the waitstaff let us take our time, the food was really tastey (the muffins tasted like my grandmother's; so good!! complimentary, served with fresh-made strawberry applesauce and scones as well. all fantastic and i really don't like applesauce, but i ate theirs.) I had the lox (fresh house-made, not at all salty) and potato pancakes (with a bit of carrot in them, not greasy at all, very crunchy), my friend had the fresh fruit bowl and the oatmeal (looked so good i might order that next time). each of us enjoyed the meal and will definitely go back. we were there on a weekday morning about 10 and there was no wait. ”

“ Call me cheap- I love their prix fixe deal here. The really big plus is that you can choose the three courses right off the menu. I enjoyed the heirloom tomatoes very much as an appetizer. The Flat iron steak was very good as the main course. Excellent garlic mashed potatoes along with mixed vegetables. The Boston cream pie was a great ending to the meal. They have an excellent selection of wines here at reasonable prices. Almost forgot- they start you with a basket of baked goodies when you order. I'm trying their brunch which I hear is great on the weekend. ”

“ We ate brunch at Town's End the day after Thanksgiving. Most people were still out of town, so it wasn't crowded as usual. After we sat down, the bread and muffin basket with all the fixings was superb. The freshly squeezed orange juice was very tasty, and menu items were truly outstanding. It was worth the 450 mile drive from southern California. ”

“ I went on a Tuesday for dinner and there was no wait. I ordered the 3 course meal which included soup or salad, desert, and entree for 14.75. I had the soup which was chicken with wild rice, apricot cheesecake with poached pears in red wine, and lamb stew. The soup was alright but there was nothing really special about it. The lamb stew was pretty good but I saw a lot of people order the steak so I need to go back to try it. Desert was awesome, it was so good. There was free bread when I sat down. The portions were pretty big overall. The service was pretty good, they refilled my water constantly. ”

“ Yet another positive review for Town's End restaurant. The great thing about this restaurant is its location. It isn't hard to get to at all by public transportation (take the N muni line, and get off brannan - one stop before SBC park). I went here for dinner, and it was such a steal for a $17.95 3-course dinner (appetizer or soup or salad, entree and desert). for my appetizer, i had the crab cake, very tasty! my entree was the duck breast in a raspberry sauce. it was delicious. one of side accompaniments was a carrot-potato pancake. i liked it because it was so different. and my desert was something with blackberries and white chocolate and some kind of pastry. it was pretty good, but i was too stuffed at that point to really enjoy it. my sister let me try her BBQ shrimp appetizer and her rib eye steak entree. BBQ shrimp was great, but the rib eye was a bit fatty and not very tender. good service and i like the breads they serve, breadsticks and foccacia were my favorites. ”

“ Great brunch spot. My only complaint is that they served my latte in a glass tumbler and it was too hot to pick up for 10 minutes -- torture for someone who was in desperate need of a caffeine fix. Big servings - and great pastries. ”

“ Excellent brunch! All the dishes had interesting touches to the standard breakfast fare. It's nice to go to a place that seems to care about serving intersting brunch food rather than the basic greasy eggs and potatoes. Can't say enough about the basket of baked goods (I'm a sucker for the mini-muffins). Haven't tried the dinner yet. ”

“ I live in South Beach so I've used Town's End as a neighborhood back-up. Decent mains, apps are a little weak...I would recommend Town's End as a better breakfast spot than dinner destination. Great prices in the South Beach/EMB area. ”

“ I just had breakfast there yesterday for my bithrday and it was wonderful. If you go during a weekday, the atmosphere is relaxed and you won't have to wait for a table. The basket of fresh baked goods is always a delicious way to start any meal. The food was really well prepared and presented, just the right portion. Often, at breakfast places, they give you way too much of everything (esp. potatoes). This isn't the case at Town's End although you also don't walk away hungry. I would definitely recommend this place to others. I haven't been here for dinner in a long time, so can't vouch for their dinner menu, but I would imagine it is probably as reliable. ”

“ This place rocks. On Tuesday night you get a 3-course prix fixe dinner for $13.50! Your choice or organic salad or soup of the day, any entree and any dessert. Amazing deal. The staff is very friendly and may not be the most attentive, but they really do try. The steak and the duck here are awesome. Highly recommend it! ”

“ It's worth it just for the basket of mini corn/blueberry muffins and tiny scones. But, don't fill up on all that bread as you wont have room for the well-prepared dishes including asparagus & goat cheese scramble or a denver style egg plate. Definitely worth a visit and you can walk the Embarcadero afterwards to strip off some of those calories. ”

“ Townsend is always a great stand-by for breakfast. Very solid, tasty vittles. I like the Messy Scramble. The basket of bakery items is tres nice too. The wait can be a bit much on the weekend, but during the week you can pretty much glide right in. Never been there for lunch... guess I'll have to try it soon and update this review! ”

“ I've only ever had brunch here, but I hear that dinner is very good, too. I think it's a great brunch spot - right on the Embarcadero, not too hard to park on the weekends, and not always a huge wait without reservations. Warning: watch out for that free basket of baked goodies that comes soon after you sit down - you'll be too full to eat your eggs benedict if you eat too many of them (but definitely take them home to eat later). ”
