“ A personal rule of thumb for myself: never bother with the thai food at these types of restaurants. It's just filler and they never do it well.
Liked: Ladyfingers belachan, char kueh teow, coconut rice, the variety of fresh fruit and veggie juices (so typical in Malaysia)
Everyone around us was ordering the penang laksa and it did look delicious. My malaysian friend also loved the nasi lemak, and deemed it similar to back home.
The Hainan Chicken came with a wonderful ginger/garlic dip but they forgot the thick soya sauce and chili sauce that also usually accompanies this dish. We ended up asking for the latter and it really made such a difference. It actually made every dish taste better.
The roti canai is a little more crispy but still decently authentic. Just an fyi: The accompanying curry dip is actually supposed to watery in texture and rarely contains anything other than just the liquid.
Fried pearl noodles were overly salty- too much soy sauce. Though I ”

“ What a disappointment. We couldn't figure out why the service was so bad at our table. We were there 1 hour and 45 minutes, while watching others leave who had gotten seated after us. I couldn't even BUY a glass of water. The Mango Shrimp so so, the flat noodles tasteless, the roti was very good. The worst part was when the "rat" above us jumped down on the suspended ceiling and shook the whole ceiling. You can hear him scurrying around above our heads. The waiters faces turned white and the customers that heard it all stared at each other with fear. It was hard to eat after that. If you want to experience a true Singaporean, Malasian, thai restaurant, you must try Banana Leaf in Milpitas.

“ A great restaurant! Order the following and you will not be disappointed: nasi lemak - Ingredients for this dish was amazing! Sardines, hard boiled eggs, chicken curry, veggie curry, salted peanuts and nicely sliced cucumbers. I really enjoyed this dish. It was an interesting mix to this plate and 'interesting' is a really good thing for me here. I thought this was one of the unique dish to really have with all the different taste from this dish. House special fried rice mixed with basil leaves - very delicious. Appetizer - roti canai that's all you need it's just delicious the curry sauce to dip the roti in it. It's reasonably priced and good for large crowds too. Oh, how could I forget the veggie (ong choy) stir fry that was very tasty and good! ”

“ Penang Garden is indeed a hidden treasure on the border of North Beach and Chinatown. The decoration looks very tropical and it's the only restaurant in San Francisco that offers food from Singapore, Malasia and thailand at the same time.(At least that I know of)My favorite dish at Penang Garden is their Mango Prawns. They actually serve it in a warm carved mango!! I have enjoyed every single dish I have had at Penang Garden and I would highly recommend this restaurants to all locals and tourists. ”

“ This is a hidden restaurant in the middle of Chinatown. Its decorated like a thai garden full of fake trees, interesting decorations, and unique flowers. Its best to get the pre-fixed menu options, because you get a lot of different options. They also have an assortment of crab dishes - if you love seafood. The wait staff were very friendly and fast when it came to our order. A little noisy though. Fun to go with a group of your friends :) ”

“ This is a fantastic restaurant. - We walked into it quite by accident, and ordered the set menu for 6. The food just kept on coming, and it was all amazing. And cheap too. Top marks! ”
