Stopped by for a drink before a show and the service was a little disorganized, but we hung out at the shellfish counter and talked to their chef. Sitting there we could appreciate how they understood quality food. Those platters of fresh shellfish looked really delicious, but unfortunately we had already eaten elsewhere. We had a bite of the ceviche and it was good, but we want to go back with another couple to enjoy that big platter. Review #21289

Farallon, with us I took my girlfriend here for her 24th birthday and I heard it was a very nice and fancy restaurant. There are glass blown creatures on the cellings that are very impressive, which look like jellyfish. The dishes we got (scallops and steak) where good, but not nearly worth the amount of money they were chargning. There desserts (ice cream sandwiches and mousse) were very disappointing and being her birthday I wanted this to be a great meal. Rather the only thing grand about it was the price - it ended up being well over $110 with tip. I wouldnt and havent gone back since. Review #19152

Ok Mate...save your arms and do not row the bay to the Farallon's, but visit this fine place to experience tempting seafood beyond measure. Now lets be honest, the other items on their menu did not really impress me, however the seafood was out of this world. I had Halibut...just for the HALI-BUT" ;-) and it melted in my mouth...yes yes and not in my hands" it was awesome...the best I have ever had. desserts were OK, not to impressed. The total cost including appetizer, salad, entree and dessert and about 2 glasses of wine...was upwards of 90.00 per person...hey but you only live once. I would say this is a tad pricey...but well worth it. You can always say.....Hey I went to the Farallon's without having to go out on the bay. :) Review #18427

Farallon is a pretty cool place to go to dinner. Not the best meal in the city, but still a fun place. Decor is pretty cool and unique. Service could be better, but the place was packed. They have a pretty impressive wine list and the prices are pretty fair. This would be a good place to take an out of town guest. Very different feel then a lot of places in the city. Review #16816

Romantic...good for special occasions. However, very pricey for what you get. Good place to try once but would not go back. Scallops were excellent but portions are small...but what can you expect at a fancy place like this. This place is too hyped up for what it really is. Typical expensive restaurant. Review #16223

I'm on the negative side of neutral on this one. I seriously do not see what all the excitement is about. My friends absolutely loved it, but I thought they were WAY overpriced for the quality of the food. The decor is a trip, but closer to cheesy than exotic. Review #16010

I'm a sucker for interesting ceilings, so Farallon started off on the right foot. The decor is a definite plus and the quality of the food was superb. Very good oysters, I liked the dungeness crab salad, the tombo tuna was good, and even the bread and the butter were very yummy. Another plus was that I wasn't paying... Expensive, but good for a special occassion such as celebrating the birth of my daughter! Review #15979

This is my favoritie special occasion restaurant in the city. No doubt about it this is a prize winner across the board from the interiors to the service and especially the food. Fish lovers paradise but If you're not a seafood lover, the steak is also outstanding. Very romantic - ask for an upstairs 'demi-booth' and impress your sweetie! Farallon blows Aqua away!!! This is the best seafood restaurant you will find in the city hands down. Farallon has amazing decor with professional, attentive and friendly service. The wine list is also amazing! The food is creative and always delicious. Try the Royal Platter and freshly shucked oysters are always a must! I come here because in Disneyland they won't let you take a martini on their 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea ride. It's fun and my out-of-town guests always get a kick out of sitting inside a whale, overlooking jelly fish, seaweed and other (real) edible sea life. Oysters are usually good and they also know how to keep their champagne cold. Food is pricey though, so stay only if you've already found and/or made your treasure. Review #12749

I came here during dine about town a few years ago. For $20, the three course lunch is pretty worth it. I had soup, the stuffed rainbow trout, and the apple fritters. Without Mark Franz, the cuisine at Farallon has absolutely no wow-factor with quality nosediving to Howard Johnson levels yet still costing $$$$. The once sparkling, unforgettable, uniquely Farallon tastes of Mark Franz have disappeared replaced by unremarkable and unmemorable dishes: a pumpkin soup too watery, a totally perfunctory calamari salad, a godawful tuna tartare whose taste was completely overwhelmed by pickles, infinitely inferior to anything at Ame or Aqua, every fish entree entirely bland and lacking any kind of subtle spicing or sauce with no standout quality whatsoever, certainly no better than any local deli, unacceptably lackluster beef dish with tender but bland slices served with semi-burnt, soggy fries; an astonishingly woeful dessert repeatedly offered at Farallon, simply unacceptable for a restaurant of this level and price: Whoever decided to serve angelfood cake with a single scoop of ice cream should be permanently banished to the Safeway deli forever. Sad. Review #9691

My wife and I had an anniversary dinner here last night. I started off with a half dozen oysters which were delicious and then had an appetizer of grilled sardines wrapped in italian bacon. These sardines were very tasty. My wife had the lobster bisque soup which she liked and then some scallops which she also enjoyed. A small tasting of some excellent tomato type soup was then brought out to us. My entree was the steak (the only non seafood item in the list of entrees) and it was great! Done perfectly and just really tasty. She had some kind of fish called wreckfish (a type of bass) which I have never heard of. She thought that this dish was excellent and with the taste I had of it I would agree. My desert was concord grape pie and it was perfect. If you like concord grapes then you must try this. She had the cream brulee which I tasted and it was very good. Overall this was an outstanding meal, although not cheap. Service was excellent. We are looking forward to eating here again. Only ever had lunches here--both for business and pleasure--and I've never been disappointed. I enjoy a restaurant that is playful with its decor. I'll never design my home like this, but I'm thrilled to see restauranteurs taking aquatic design plunges. As a non-fish eater, I thought I'd be in trouble at Farallon. Au contraire, mon frere. The pastas are cooked to perfection, meats are delicious. A pork chop was deliciously tender on the inside, carmelized crispy outside. Nice selection of wines, plenty of appetizers and starters for those with a small appetite (or wallet). They are accomodating to large parties (though I recommend not booking the "Upstairs Library" as it's Farallon's service but the hotel's decor) *and* to families with babes-in-arms. The back room/grotto is my favorite. Review #8213

Just had lunch here last Saturday. My second time here and enjoyed it. The decor is from outer space and may not be to everyone's liking, but I enjoy it. Food is quite good - my salmon was perfect. The staff on both times has been very pleasant and courteous and make it a pleaure to be there. Mainly seafood, but they have some things for meat eaters. But why go here if you don't like seafood unless it is to be with some friends who are fish eaters. Review #7813

My family had an awesome dinner at Farallon. Albeit we went in knowing we'd be spending a small fortune for what was my father's and his twin brother's birthday dinner. The restaurant was very accommodating to our special requests. Food was excellent, portions were perfect, muscat wine was delicious. Service was not rushed to clear our table on a busy Friday night. On the down side, there was a little too long of a lag between courses which was great to converse with family but may have been uncomfortable if we were trying to get to a play. Everyone was very pleased, and that says a lot for my difficult family who have a hard time coughing up big bucks for great service and food! Review #6649

where o where do my reviews go>? I have reiviewed this before...ANYWAY. I have eaten here once and was not nearly as impressed as I was told I should be...but there ya are...i don't usually follow trends. I tried the tuna tartar and was less than impressed it was fresh, but totally flavourless...sometimes tuna is that way...and you need to season it (in my opinion). Simplicity is nice...but if its flavourless work with it. Also tried a dozen oysters...tasty of course. Decor is trendy and cool...seems overpriced, and overdone to me. I ended up going over to Postrio for thier tuna tartar and I was happy again! Review #6132

Farallon was GREAT when they first opened, but I feel like they've been going downhill. The seafood is the draw, but so is Pat Kuletos interior from the whimsy chandeliers, to the the lighting and decor creating an underwater fantasy. The seafood, raw bar, etc is all still very good, but not dazzling as when they first opened up. Still a great restaurant that as a whole is still 5 star, but there are better offerings out there. The wine list is solid too if a little a pricey. Review #6130

We had a fabulous lunch at Farallon near Union Square. The undersea d?r is stunning and was matched perfectly by the sophisticated Coastal Cuisine. Executive Chef Mark Franz and Restaurateur Pat Kuleto have collaborated to create this unique dining experience. The Farallon Prix Fixe Lunch consisted of a three course tasting menu. The Cauliflower Soup with parsley coulis was an excellent starter. The Seared hawaiian Tombo Tuna was accompanied by wilted baby spinach, tiny white beans and topped with a fantastic piquillo pepper rouille. The Pumpkin Spice Cake with orange caramel sauce, cream cheese Chantilly and rum raisins was the perfect finish to an extraordinary lunch. The cuisine was so tasty and the portions were so large that this could easily have been priced twice the $21.95 and been worth it. www.farallonrestaurant.com Review #5530

I have to be the rogue reviewer on this one, my experience was awful. I think the decor is incredibly cheesy and overdone, perhaps fun for your kids, but your kids won't enjoy the food, so why would you bring them, especially at these prices. At a table of 6, there were no fewer than 6 serious service errors (including but not limited to incredibly oversalted food, seriously undercooked and overcooked meat and fish, and completely forgotten and missed orders). None of these errors were properly compensated, and to boot, not even the properly prepared food was anything to remark on. Skip it and go to Aqua instead. Review #5266

Farallon is one of the most satisfying restaurants to visit. The setting is surreal (in a good way) and the service is attentive and thoughtful yet unintrusive. The food is otherworldly, especially if you enjoy seafood, however...I've gone there with friends who like eating landed animals and they were very pleased with their dishes. Their winelist is thorough yet they have a fantastic corkage policy of waiving the corkage charge for every bottle you order from the winelist...so if you bring a wine, order something that is about the price of the corkage charge ($25) and you will get to enjoy an extra bottle of wine PLUS the wine you brought! Parking isn't difficult as there are many parking garages nearby. If you're staying at a nearby hotel, all the better. Review #5153

Extremely disappointed in this place. The menu is limited and the choices arent great either. Definitely dont bother to visit this place for Dine About Town. They dont give you choices for that menu. When I went it was white soup for appetizer, halibut for entree, and lime tart for dessert. How gross does that sound? We chose to do the 5 course meal instead. The portions were no larger than the size of a half dollar but the selection was better. Definitely not worth $45 for it though. Review #3010

We spent the money we were saving on for a washer and dryer on dinner a few weeks ago. We enjoyed the 5-entree with wine pairings, all of which were delicious. When I told the waiter that I don't like sweets, he substituted a plate of cheeses for the dessert course. The surroundings are magnificent.
