Positive I am addicted to the sauce at Patxi's. It is so tangy and delicious! There are a few good deep dish pizza places now, but I think Patxi's has the best thin crust. (I eat here too often to order the deep dish each time, I'd be the size of a whale!) I recently got a Little Star deep dish, also very good, but I'm not a fan of tomato sauce with hunks of tomato so large that they seem like a topping. The crust seemed more of a whole wheat mixture compared to Patxi's, and I had a hard time locating the toppings in the pie. These are the three noticeable differences between the two for me, but both are good at satisfying my pizza cravings. Review #19527 Patxi's Chicago Pizza

Neutral Picked up lunch here today. The chicken was good but really not better than KFC. I think I would have been happier at Tu Lan next door. Nice for something new though. Review #14030 Louisiana Fried Chicken

Positive Sushi Delight is a great late night stop. They are open to 1am (I think) on the weekend, and they have really good sushi! A lot of creative rolls, the Voodoo Roll is soooo good. Fried cucumber and tuna, topped with seaweed and a spicy sauce. It looks beautiful too! Staff is very friendly and accomodating as well. Another favorite is the Tempura Green Tea Ice Cream. The restaurant is located right next to the Mint, so your dining experience includes some muffled Karaoke noise, which can be really funny! Review #9623 Sushi Delight

Positive After game 7 of the NBA finals I needed to go somewhere to lift my spirits and thought Sake and Sushi would do the trick. I was already in the Lower Haight so stopped at Hanabi. I had been here a couple times before and thought it was OK, nothing great. This last trip was awesome! The Albacore was so tender, as was the Salmon. The Unagi in the catapiller roll also incredible. Don't know if things have changed for the better here or if I just lucked out and got extremely fresh fish. I will definately be back to find out! Positive Finally made it to Platanos and I loved it! I finished every bite of my crab enchiladas. Also loved the Guacamole and Plantain chips. The tables are crammed together, and I admit I was worried about squeezing into the middle one of a whole row of occupied tables. However once we sat down we were not bothered by the other tables. The warm cosy atmosphere with the large overhead fans circulatiing add to the charm. As you can tell from my other reviews, I like festive somewhat crowed restaurants where you may actually have a conversation with someone other than your dining companion, although not everyone feels that way. Positive I am generally not a fan of Indian food, but I really enjoyed this place! The Chicken Tikka Masala was sooo good that I thought about it longingly for days afterward. This is a funny little Ikea furnished gem in the sketchiest part of lower Haight. I love the neighborhood but it's not for everyone. No alcohol but you can brown bag it in. Free Chai Tea provided from a thermos up front. Again I'm not big on Indian food, but I love Thai curries. Perhaps the sauces are on the sweet side here? Review #6360 Rotee

Positive This may become my new fav for sushi. It is very reasonably priced (I don't want sushi to be too cheap, if you know what I mean!) I love the decor! Very sparce space with Godzilla movie posters. It's refreshing to find a place that concentrates on great food and service, rather than hiring interior designers to "create a mood". All the basics are covered here, as well as offering some inventive specials. Try the "lazy monkey" if available, a roll with banana as one of the ingredients, yum! Sake is a bargain here as well. Neutral I went here with my parents for bunch. They are great sports but were tired of trying "creative" or "trendy" restaurants which to them is about 90% of the eating spots in SF! Great restaurant for them. They knew what everything on the menu was, the chairs were comfortable, it was well lit so they could read the menu. To me, it is a beautiful dining room but still has that "hotel restaurant" feel. This sounds harsh but brunch at the Grand Cafe was kind of like a glorified Denny's experience! Typical choices but with better ingredients, and a much bigger price. Review #5446 Grand Cafe (Formal Dining Room)

Positive I had a great meal here thanks to winning a gift certificate on SFSurvey! Honestly the food was all wonderful. I had the mango avocado salad and the Sea Bass. Salad was a great mixture of flavors and the Sea Bass was prepared perfectly. Service was great also. Couldn't have asked for a better waitress and the host came over and chatted as well. Soluna is interesting because it is upscale dining yet with the music and DJ station has a club vibe as well. I usually don't want to mix the two, I either want to go to dinner or go to a club, but I think it works here. Music and general bar noise was not overpowering and you can still have a conversation over dinner. Definately a burning man type vibe. Review #5406 Soluna Cafe and Lounge

Positive Here is my follow up to bradlauster's review of my birthday dinner at Luna Park. I have to disagree and give it a positive, because I chose this restaurant for specific reasons and it met all my objectives. I was having a birthday dinner with 12 people, most didn't know each other, and I didn't want everyone just staring at each other while they ate! This was a very lively atmosphere, especially on a Friday night. They were able to seat all of us at one table, with reservations made only a couple days in advance. The selection of comfort food made everyone happy, and it's great (in this situation) when the restaurant also has a top notch bar, with creative drinks. Another plus when they are served with old school plastic cocktail animals! We did have to wait for our table and the food itself was secondary to the socializing, but I enjoyed Luna Park. Negative After reading Chowdawg's review, I feel bad giving this restaurant a negative review. Props to them for the organic ingredients, recycling and living wages, but the food was terrible! Everything was bland, how can you have Mexican food with no flavor? My tacos were soooo runny! Yuck! Who wants soggy food with no taste? Review #4360 Mijita

Positive Ate at Laurel's for the first time, after walking past it for over a year. It's very unpretentious, just great Cuban food at reasonable prices. There is a huge menu, a lot of seafood dishes but really a little of everything. I had Ropa Vieja, which is a shredded beef stew, with rice and plantains. It was perfect. They have a full liquor license and serve pitchers of sangria. The funky/tacky decor (crepe paper happy birthday banner is hanging, for those last minute birthday dinners I guess) adds to the charm of this little neighborhood gem. Located directly behind Paul K. Positive Maybe I'm too old school, but I like this place. I don't judge a restaurant on how fast I can sit down. I believe that squeezing into the bar and having a few glasses of sangria while waiting for your table is part of the appeal of Cha Cha Cha. I love the hummus based (I think) spicy dipping sauce that comes with the fried potatoes. The music and decor just makes me happy. (well, maybe the sangria helps too!) Review #4177 Cha Cha Cha

Positive Taking people to this restaurant makes me feel like a "hipster", even though I'm not sure what that is! Very urban setting, (across from muni bus storage location) very reliable menu, and the wait is never unbearable. The last part thanks to the great bartenders. Always a good experience. Bonus points for the great type face used on the outdoor signage. Review #4176 Slow Club

Positive I wanted to keep this place a secret, but I guess word is out. Lines for a table (not many in this small space) can be long but worth the wait. I like eating outside in the rain! (Roof overhang keeps you dry plus they have heaters) Nothing like eating a dozen raw oysters and a decadent grilled cheese sandwich (a must) while watching the boats go by on a rainy day. Positive I have to disagree with all the Nanking haters. Sure the service is not great, you will often be served what they have available, but everything I have had there has been excellent and a great value. Always impressed by the fresh produce, especially the sweet potatoes in the Chicken Nanking. I usually go with a large group, and we tell them we will be at the bar a couple doors down. (sign outside bar says "where friends and girls meet"!) The staff at HofK calls the bar when our table is ready! Review #4168 House of Nanking

Positive New restaurant in Hayes Valley. The decor isn't much but the food is great, a real treat! I would call this comfort food meets California cuisine. We started with Portabello Fries (awesome!) I had roasted chicken Mac n' Cheese and my friend had Seared Pepper Steak with Baby Bok Choy. Both were excellent! Next time I'm trying the bacon wrapped meatloaf! The deserts are a real treat as well. They have mini fried dough pieces with a bourbon dipping sauce, and what they call PB&J, which is a pan seared sponge cake with ice cream. I'm tempted to make this a regular desert stop, as the kitchen is open daily to midnight, and bar open to 2am. Welcome to the neighborhood! Review #3517 Sauce

Positive OK, I eat here more than I like to admit. HUGE burgers served with fries and a salad. The place could use a good cleaning, and the tables are down right sticky at times, but they make a great burger. Other traditional fare on the menu plus breakfast served all day. Positive I've yet to meet anyone who doesn't like this restaurant! I am used to German restaurants filled with gray-haired grannys and polka bands, but not here. This place draws a young crowd, yet my parents love it too. Great food, sparse decor, and a great back bar area complete with Jesus candles! Review #2836 Suppenkuche
